Events around Carson City for Thursday, Sept. 26

Heading into Thursday and the final stretch of the work week, it is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area featuring a morning hike along Clear Creek hosted by Muscle Powered, activities at the Carson City Library, western square dancing offered through Carson City Parks and Recreation, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, Ladies' Night Out at Gather, a volunteer information hour and training hosted by Carson City's CASA, a lecture entitled "100 Years Later: The 1919 Transcontinental Military Motor Convoy" featured at the Nevada State Museum, and more.

Here's what's happening Thursday:

Muscle Powered Thursday Morning Hike at Clear Creek. 8 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. This Thursday morning hike will be the Clear Creek Trail Upper end. Meet at the Highway 50 Park and Ride where we will carpool or caravan to the starting point off of Golf Course Road. Thursday morning hikes start at 8 AM and are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and closed-toed shoes are required. Hat and poles recommended If weather conditions are bad hikes will be cancelled. Check www.musclepowered.org/calendar or Facebook. Capital City Arts Initiative debuts 'Constellation' exhibit. Daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, announces its exhibition, "Constellation" at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from the University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public now to Dec. 10, 2019, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Sharon Rosse, CCAI Executive Director, said “CCAI is delighted to work with our partner schools and to present this exhibition of UNR’s students’ work. We are proud of the professional level of the students’ art and of the faculty who encourage and nurture their imaginations and skill levels.” This show is another in CCAI’s ongoing series of student exhibitions in the Brick.

Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: New Crop 2019. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E. Musser St. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, New Crop 2019, by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop.

Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery Autumn Membership Show, now through Oct. 18. Enjoy artwork from our member artists. Membership has risen to nearly 150 local artists during our 40th year operating as a gallery. The Autumn Membership show runs from Sept. 8 to Oct. 18 at Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery at 449 W. King Street in Carson City. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Also, save the date, Nov. 3 as the association will be hosting its 40th anniversary celebration on location at the Gallery, 2-4 p.m.

Carson City Library hosts Family Storytime. Two sessions. 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 a.m. These are both the same and last 45 minutes. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Carson Street.

Modern Western Square Dancing offered through Carson City Parks and Recreation. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Square dancing is a dance for four couples (eight dancers in total) arranged in a square. It is a very social and fun way to dance. Instruction will be provided. Come by yourself or with a group of friends. The more the merrier! The class runs for 10 weeks. Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park. Noon to 9 p.m. Food Truck Thursday will be held at Mills Park on the second and fourth Thursday of the month and will feature several food trucks. 1111 East William Street.

LEGO Club at Carson City Library. 4 to 6 p.m. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop St., Carson City.

Ladies' Night Out Thursday at Gather. The Carson City restaurant Gather hosts a Thursday Ladies' Night Out event, which happens every last Thursday of the month. The event has half price glasses of special wines, discounts on special bottles of wine, food specials and raffle prizes. Ladies' Night Out takes place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Gather, 402 North Carson Street, Carson City.

Carson City's CASA to host Thursday volunteer information hour and training. 5:30 p.m. Imagine the experience of children who are removed from their homes due to allegations of abuse or neglect. These children find themselves in a world filled with social workers, lawyers, judges and courtrooms where life-altering decisions are made on their behalf. A CASA volunteer is a court appointed, trained and committed adult who ensures that each child's individual needs remain a priority in an over-burdened child welfare system. A CASA volunteer gets to know the child while also gathering information from the child's family, teachers, doctors, care-givers and anyone else involved in the child's life in order to make independent and informed recommendations to assist the Judge decide what's best for the child. There will be a volunteer training session and information hour this Thursday, 5:30 p.m. at the CASA office, 1539 East Fifth Street. Frances Humphrey Lecture Series: “100 Years Later: The 1919 Transcontinental Military Motor Convoy." 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Lecture conducted by Jim Bonar, Director and past president of the Nevada Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association, will discuss what happened 100 years ago and how that impacted present day. 600 North Carson Street, Carson City.

Pro Jam Night with Lester & Friends at Mangia Tutto. 6:30 p.m. A night out for pro musicians to get together and make some music. Join Brian Lester and Friends every Thursday this summer at Mangia Tutto Pizzeria on the corner of Stewart and Musser St. 6:30 to 9 p.m. Bring your instruments.
